Spread Holiday Cheer, Not COVID-19

11/5/2020

The holidays are a time to make happy memories, spend time with loved ones, and exchange gifts with one another. This year, not giving your friends and family COVID-19 is the best gift you can give. When making holiday plans, it's important to be aware of how you can reduce the spread of COVID-19. Here are some key factors to keep in mind.

Community risks

  • A high level of COVID-19 cases in an area = a higher infection risk.
  • This is important for both the gathering location and the areas in which attendees are coming from.

Duration risks

  • More time for an event = more time to be exposed.
  • Keep events as short as possible.

Number of attendees

  • The bigger the list the bigger the spread.
  • Crowded events pose as a significant risk. Have a short guest list to allow for proper social distancing.

Guest behaviors

  • Social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing, and other preventative measures are always important behaviors - before, during, and after a gathering.
  • Attendees who do not adhere to these safety precautions, both before and during an event, are likely to pose more risk.

Key takeaways

  • The best way to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community from COVID-19 is to stay home!
  • When in doubt, don't travel and don't attend in-person gatherings with people outside of your household.
