Holiday Celebration Ideas During COVID-19

12/10/2020

Don't let COVID-19 cause you to miss out on holiday fun! We have some alternative activities to help you celebrate the safe way.

Fun Activities to Consider

Organize a car parade: Get your friends, family, and neighbors together for a fun competition. Go all out and decorate your car to be fun and festive! Drive around the neighborhood and spread cheer along the way.

Check out local decorations: You can walk around your neighborhood or go on a drive around town to enjoy the beautiful displays. Try to visit neighborhoods that go all out or find a local drive-thru light display.

Get dressed up: Celebrate in style with your best holiday garb! You can host a virtual ugly sweater or costume contest to get in the holiday spirit. You can also have a virtual pajama party and enjoy a comfy celebration.

Enjoy a movie night: Watch your favorite holiday movies or find new ones to enjoy. If you want to watch movies with people outside of your household, you can use tools such as Netflix’s Teleparty or Hulu’s Watch Party features.

Have a gift exchange: Whether it’s a secret gift exchange or a themed gift swap, you can still give your loved ones a thoughtful present in a safe way. Have your group draw names and send the gifts ahead of time with secret clues. Open the gifts together via video chat and enjoy the mystery of guessing who sent the gift.

Virtual holiday bingo: Compete with your friends and family over video chat with this classic game. Find out who has been the most festive this season and have fun with your group. Click here to view our bingo game.

Make your favorite holiday recipe: Whether it’s with just your household members or your loved ones over a video chat, you can still cook together! Have your group choose a recipe and create the dish from scratch at the same time via video chat.

Virtual scavenger hunt: Race against the clock to find the holiday items on the list in 5 minutes (or longer if your group chooses). Go around and do a “show and tell” of everyone’s items at the end. Whoever gets the most items wins! You can also vote on the “best find” of each item on the list.

Examples include:

  • Holiday photo
  • Winter coat
  • Favorite holiday decoration
  • Something green
  • Candle
  • The biggest present
